Spindles are technical in nature and it is best to call and talk to a PDS spindle technician for answers to your application, wiring and configuration questions. Some questions are asked more frequently than others. This section provides many of the more common questions. To start the spindle repair process, first, submit a repair form here. After submitting the form, print a copy of it and place it in the box with your spindle. We will contact you after your spindle has been received, disassembled and evaluated.

PDS provides a twelve-month warranty on all repair work and a one-year warranty on all new spindles. Our industry-leading, 24-month PrecisionCare warranty is available with the addition of a Spindle Health Information Monitoring System.
Once your spindle has been disassembled and evaluated, our technical experts will assess the cost of repairs, as well as the cost of a replacement spindle, and will recommend which would be most cost-effective.
There is no set price for spindle repairs. Because PDS only repairs parts of the spindle that are damaged, the cost of repair cannot be determined until the spindle has been disassembled and evaluated by our technicians.
For spindles under 75 pounds, we recommend UPS ground. For spindles greater than 75 pounds, we recommend shipping UPS Freight on a pallet. This minimizes the risk of damage during shipping.
Much like cost, there is no set time frame for a spindle repair, because every repair is different. At the customer’s request, our technical support specialists will be able to provide estimated repair times on a case by case. If you require emergency repair, please let us know so we can discuss options to expedite the process.
Repair is often ideal for performance loss, noise, heat, or finish issues. Replace when there’s crash damage or an ongoing malfunction that threatens reliability.
Rebuild is often recommended due to extensive damage or is worn beyond its useful or intended life. Another sign is when the spindle fails to operate efficiently and reliably for its specific purpose. And lastly, when upgrades are needed. For example, spindle components can be enhanced for better performance or to align with current application and performance standards.
For demanding finishing and precision cutting, 12,000–40,000 RPM is commonly used, depending on the material, tooling, cut angles, and machine or robotic strategy.
Common causes include imbalance, bearing wear, runout, contamination, and thermal instability—issues that professional spindle repair can correct.
Use proper warm-up, clean air, and lubrication, and balanced tooling. Watch for rising heat, noise, or vibration and service early to prevent failure.
We can install our Spindle Health Information Monitoring System (SHIMS), which allows visual performance monitoring of all spindle-equipped machines. It records emergency stop alerts and continuously maintains optimum spindle health by capturing and utilizing real-time vibration and temperature data. Our sensor system analyzes and presents spindle history, all alarms and warnings, check-up, power on, shutdowns, and modifications to the device parameters.
